David Hood is a conductor, composer and trumpet player, with B Mus and PhD (Australian History) degrees from the University of Adelaide. As a trumpet player, he has performed in many Opera Australia and Australian Ballet productions, including the Verdi Requiem, Lohengrin, Andrea Chénier and Spartacus. David’s repertoire is not limited to classical music. In Adelaide he was for many years a member of the Flinders Street School of Music Big Band, and in Canberra he directed the ‘In Full Swing’ big band. He has directed groups in a wide range of styles, from the baroque and classical choral repertoire to music theatre and operetta. Since moving to Sydney in 2000, he has led a varied musical life as performer, organist, choirmaster and composer, including current positions at St Jude's Church Randwick and All Souls' Church Leichhardt. In 2002 he formed the Inner West Chamber Choir. With the IWCC and other groups he has conducted numerous performances covering a range of musical styles, including the Eastern Suburbs Musical Society's production of Godspell (2001), and Savoy Arts Company's productions of The Pirates of Penzance (2003) and Patience (2004). In April 2006 he conducted a performance of his own Missa Brevis at St Jude's Church Randwick. David has written a number of works for piano, choir and string ensemble and hopes to spend more time on composition in 2007.
